Success To Control Blood Pressure Using CT Scan

0

The activity of certain hormone glands in the human body causes constant blood pressure disorder. Now, British experts have discovered a completely new way of identifying and treating these glands with just a 10-minute CT scan. Doctors at Queen Mary Hospital, University of Cambridge and Barts Hospital have developed a new type of CT scan that can shine a light on fibers growing on hormone glands and then pull them out to detect high blood pressure (hypertension).

Can be treated. The research, published in Nature Medicine, solves a 60-year-old problem facing medicine. About one in 20 patients with high blood pressure have these swellings (nodules) on these glands. Earlier, doctors tried hard to diagnose and extricate them and had to face failure. The subjects in this study had an average of 128 high blood pressure and it was caused by steroid hormones. With the help of CT scan, experts found that two-thirds of the patients had a little too much of the hormone ‘aldosterone’, which was coming from a gland (gland) in their body called the adrenal gland. The experts noted the fine ridges above this gland. When these swellings were removed, the patients’ blood pressure started to come under control But the proposed method is very complex and also quite new.

During the scan, a radioactive (radioactive) dye ‘metomidate’ is injected into the gland, which sticks to the fine bump and emits light to identify it. Then it is successfully ejected. This method has been proven to be more targeted and effective than conventional treatment, which is less time consuming and less painful. Previously, there was a 99% failure rate to detect adrenal gland enlargement with a conventional CT scan. However, after many years of hard work, it is now possible to successfully treat people suffering from this strange type of blood pressure. It has been successfully tested on a total of 18 patients and thus can be widely used on humans.
